TUNNY' S SWEEP LATE MODELS; TURNER, HASSON, HOPPER & PIERSON CLAIM CHECKERS

America's busiest little racetrack continued the post-season stock car action with an evening of racing at the Indianapolis Speedrome. Late Models, SuperModifeds, Stocks and the popular Roadrunner and four-cylinder Hornet class gathered on a beautiful Indian Summer evening for a preview of the start of the traditional Carmel Sod Fall Festival series

Bill Tunny, Jr., was tops in Round Four of the Speedrome' s post-season Late Models vs. SuperModifieds "Showdown on the Roundy-Round" with a half-lap win over his nephew, Mark Tunny. Last week's winner, Doug Greig, started from the pole and led most of the race with hard challenges from veteran SuperMod driver Billy George and the Late Models of Mark Tunny, Curtis McMurtrey and George Sutton. Greig led from the green flag to Lap 60 of the 75-lapper, often with Billy George outside until a brush into the wall slowed George with damage. Bill Tunny took control after a Lap 54 restart saw Greig trapped down low and Tunny unwilling to back off. Tunny claimed the lead with 15 remaining and ran off with the win. Mark Tunny shook off a late spin after tangling with Kelly Schaffer in her racing debut to take second from Greig on the white flag. Greig held on to third ahead of McMurtrey, Green, Sutton and George. Mark Tunny was fastest in the time trials, tying the track record at 13.092 with Tunny, Jr. topping the dash.
