Memorial Day weekend and the great Indy racing tradition continues on both sides of the Circle City. The IRL may have their annual romp on the west side of town but the east side Indianapolis Speedrome's 61st season is in full swing with R.J. Norton, Jr. and Kerry Wright in the spotlight.

RED LINE GRAPHICS LATE MODELS -

Afternoon qualifying saw George Sutton take fast time but it was Curtis McMurtrey best in the four lap Hutchison Signs Trophy Dash for the Red Line Graphics Late Models. Rodney Sizemore, Bill Fortner, Christopher Green and Steve Frost were tops in their heat races with Steve Prine snagging the Last Chance Race which set the field for the 25-lap main on the oval. Mark Murello set the early pace and left the rest behind as Danny Turner trailed for seventeen laps. Murello came up on the slower car of Bill Fortner and hooked bumpers. Both cars spun to the infield leaving Danny Turner in the lead with Rodney Sizemore hot on his tail. On Lap 21 Turner came up on the Steve Prine machine and had to climb up on the high groove. Sizemore slipped inside to challenge for the lead when Turner failed keep up the speed. Turner retook the top spot when Sizemore had to check up and the pair settled into a side-by-side fight to the checkered that had Sizemore take the win in a flagman's call. Bill Tunny, Jr. just nipped Bobby Douthitt for third with George Sutton in the pack.

Danny Turner started up front in the 50-Lap Figure-8 and tried to play the rabbit only to have a cross-over collision with Steve Prine and Donnie Garrigus III. Turner walked to the ambulance for a check-up as Mark Murello inherited the lead on the re-start. Murello took off at the green only to see another red come out for the airborne car of Bill Fortner who met up with Bill Tunny, Jr. and Billy Garrigus. Fortner walked off the track commenting, "Well, I told them it was a rocket." After the race re-started R.J. Norton, Jr. passed Murello bringing Bruce Tunny along for second. Tunny chased Norton for 36 laps until Tunny got a nose ahead on lap 41. The two entered turn three on Lap 42 behind Leonard Basham with Tunny trying to consolidate the lead. Contact sent Tunny sliding to the infield where he fell into the clutches of third place Curtis McMurtrey and the same scenario played out again on Lap 48. Norton cruised to the win with McMurtrey second then George Sutton, Tunny and Bobby Douthitt for the top five
