GARRIGUS, ACREE, DIBBERN, SIZEMORE WIN ON SPEEDROME FRIDAY
Indianapolis Speedrome
Indianapolis, Indiana
May 17, 2008

It was back to racing Friday at “the World’s Home of the Figure 8” ®. The Speedrome had glorious weather as it jumped back in the saddle after a pair of Mother Nature dominated Friday’s. The drivers were raring and ready to go in the Junior Faskarts, Indy Faskarts, Hornets, and Roadrunners. Let’s get right to the action.

The Roadrunners made a rare Friday appearance and had a very strong showing in race one of a doubleheader weekend. Kicking off the night was a trio of heat races. Indiana Asphalt Shootout point leader Rex Cox II, versatile Jeff A Smith, and rookie Justin Dibbern were victorious in those preliminaries. The very accomplished feature field saw a wild and wooly start as several top drivers tangled on the backstretch. After that settled down, it was Justin Dibbern bursting from the pack to romp to his first regular season victory in the division. Smith got that last lap edge in traffic to take the runner-up spot over third place Scott McKinney.

The Indy Faskarts had a stellar roster of winged warriors on hand this second event of the 2008 campaign. The afternoon began with a hotly contested qualification session that saw Josh McQueary on top with a track record time of 15.357 seconds. Then Fall Festival champ JD Blankenship, “the Big E” Elvin Acree, and newcomer Ryne Frederick posted wins in the heat races. This main was a bumpy ride early on as drivers were anxious after a two-week racing layoff. After sorting out the thrills and spills, it was Elvin Acree grabbing the feature trophy for the first time in 2008. Two-time defending champion Jon Wilson came from the back for second with all-time wins king David Plummer Jr taking third.

The seven to fifteen year old drivers in the Junior Faskarts came to compete on this friendly Friday program. These youngsters set out the day first with qualifying. Current Bandolero point leader Jack Dossey III set the bar with a new track record lap of 15.660 second in the time trials. This lined-up the pilots for a pair of heat races which were won by opening round winner Mason Keller and rookie Thomas Skiles. The feature affair saw Mason march to the front on lap two looking for his sixth straight win dating back to 2007. That streak ended a few laps later when his ride broke. Dossey went to the lead and had a strong two-car battle with Jacob Garrigus. The pair pushed through lapped traffic as Garrigus emerged for the victory. Dossey was second with title contender Nick Keller third.

The Hornet Chase for the Cup season rolled on with the first in a weekend twin bill. Preliminary heat race action saw title contenders Jon Elkins Jr and Shayne Catt top the results at the finish. The feature began with the field looking to de-rail the Chad Sizemore express. The series point leader has three feature wins in the season’s seven previous events. A valiant effort by race runner-up Elkins and third place Nigel Peters was to no avail as Sizemore took the checkered flag to victory lane.
